🍷 Velvet Toast

Goat cheese and red wine–caramelized onion on toasted bread — sweet, savory, creamy perfection.

📝 Ingredients (for 2 toasts)

  • 2 slices of sourdough or whole grain bread

  • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced

  • 2 tsp brown sugar or honey

  • 1/4 cup red wine (dry or semi-dry)

  • Olive oil

  • 80–100 g soft goat cheese

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Optional: fresh thyme or rosemary

🍳 Instructions

1. Caramelize the onion

  • Heat a splash of olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat.

  • Add the sliced red onion and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.

  • Sprinkle in the brown sugar or honey and stir well.

  • Add the red wine and continue to cook for another 5–7 minutes, until the liquid reduces and becomes glossy. Remove from heat.

2. Toast the bread

  • While the onion finishes, toast the bread until golden and crisp.

  • Spread a thick layer of goat cheese on each slice while still warm.

3. Assemble the toast

  • Spoon the red wine caramelized onion generously over the goat cheese.

  • Sprinkle with black pepper and fresh herbs if desired.

4. Serve and enjoy

  • Serve warm or at room temperature as a savory-sweet snack, breakfast, or appetizer.

🌿 Kuisit Tip

This toast also works beautifully on grilled baguette slices for entertaining. If you like a tangy twist, add a splash of balsamic vinegar with the wine for extra depth.
